Online Gaming Industry Fights Back — A23 Challenges Ban in Court

Bengaluru, Aug 28:

In a landmark move, leading online gaming platform A23 has filed a petition in the Karnataka High Court, challenging the government’s recent ban on money-based online games such as poker and rummy.

The company has argued that the ban is unconstitutional, violating the right to trade and livelihood, while also threatening to derail a fast-growing industry projected to reach $3.6 billion by 2029.

Industry experts fear that the ban could result in job losses, investor pullouts, and stunted innovation in the gaming ecosystem. Meanwhile, policymakers maintain the restrictions are necessary to curb addiction and protect vulnerable players.

The High Court’s ruling on this case is expected to set a precedent for the future of India’s digital gaming economy.
